Red Light or Red Flag? | TikTok Myth Busters

Alright Fam,

Let's dive right into this week's TikTok Skin MythBusters™ - the beloved Red Light Therapy Masks!

TikTok says:

✨ wrinkles disappear
✨ collagen magically rebuilds overnight
✨ acne disappears
✨ glass skin unlocked

These are BIG promises.

Let’s clear one thing up immediately: You cannot rebuild lost collagen.
One more time for the ladies in the back: You cannot rebuild lost collagen.

First rule of thumb: if a product promises to rebuild, regrow, or replace lost collagen, proceed with healthy caution.

But, it is true that red light therapy does have its benefits.

Let's get geeky for a second. Professional-grade LED works by delivering specific wavelengths of light that stimulate cellular activity and energy production, which may support:

✅ tissue repair
✅ reduced inflammation
✅ skin recovery

What does that actually mean?

With consistent, long-term use, a quality, professional-grade LED device may support overall tissue recovery and regeneration of muscles—but there is very limited research and definitely zero proven results suggesting they have direct benefits to the skin (disclaimer: I, too, purchased 3 different iterations to prove the research wrong!)

Professional Verdict:

These high ticket gadgets are not replacing your skincare routine. And this is where TikTok loses the plot.

The highest ROI skincare routine still looks pretty boring:

AM Routine

Gentle cleanser
• Antioxidant/Vitamin C
• Moisturizer
SPF

PM Routine

• Cleanser
• Retinoid (if tolerated) or better yet, Yonka's Bi-Serum (Like Retinol!)
Moisturizer

Done consistently for 6–12 months? Visible + proven results!
